BioCannDo Think Biobased Challenge for students

BioCannDo Think Biobased Challenge for students

Posted on 24/01/201924/01/2019 by Louis Ferrini

Think Biobased Challenge

The Think Biobased Challenge invites European College or University students, to design Biobased educational material that students will never forget.
Help creating a better environment and win prizes just by doing so!

We are all on the verge of a transition to a world in which we want and need to be less dependent on fossil raw materials. In the transition to this world, we aim for an economy that runs on biomass as a raw material.
For this transition to a Biobased Economy we need brilliant minds in the future. The road there already starts in primary education (9-12 years old), secondary education (13-16 years old) and secondary vocational education (17-22 years old).

You are an European College or University student and we challenge you to develop innovative teaching materials that can be used to draw attention to the Biobased Economy. Not in a boring lesson, but in such a way that this learning experience can always stay with you. How cool is it when students throughout Europe get to work with a Biobased Lesson that you have created? Moreover, a total prize money of € 9.000,- will be divided among the best entrants!

Are you involved in developing educational material concerning the bio-based economy and/or interested in the education of (new) professionals? Then you may want to engage with others that share your interest and join our webinar.

BioCannDo is about explaining the idea of the bioeconomy and of bio-based end-products in a clear and understandable language, in a scientifically correct manner, and connecting it to everyday life. Collaboration partners can share and learn about good practices in approaches and formats for communication to the general public.

What can you expect from the webinar:

This webinar will be the kick-off of the Bioeconomy Education Community of Practice. In this community of institutes we will share education materials and will discuss interesting topics from the field of bioeconomy. In the webinar three different networks of educational institutes will present themselves: a network with institutes in the east of Europe (Platform on Bioeconomy Education), a network of Dutch/Flemish institutes that cooperate in an Interreg project (Grenzeloos Biobased Onderwijs, in English: Borderless Biobased Education) and a Dutch nationwide network of educational institutes. The presentations will be focused on their ambitions and why/how they would like to connect to other networks and the Community of Practice in particular. You are kindly invited to join the Community of Practice that we will be setting up together.

Webinar agenda:

Raising the youth’s awareness on the bioeconomy: the Think Biobased Challenge

Raising the youth’s awareness on the bioeconomy: the Think Biobased Challenge

Posted on 21/11/2018 by Erik Lohse - BioCannDo project

It should be one of our primary goals for the children of the future to raise their awareness on the opportunities the bioeconomy can provide.

We cannot transition successfully to a bioeconomy-oriented world relying on the educational materials we have at this moment.

To engage with young people and raise their interest in the bioeconomy, the BioCannDo project has launched the “Think Biobased Challenge”. This initiative will encourage the development of learning tools that draw students’ attention to learn more about the biobased economy.

The competition is open to all college and university students willing to take the challenge and design educational materials catered to primary and secondary school students. These teaching materials have to be readily used and must be produced in English (and in the participant’s local language if he/she is a non-native English speaker).

The competition is open until 1 February 2019.

A panel of bio-economy experts will reward the most creative and innovative teaching modules with a money prize of 3,000 for each educational grade level (i.e.: the top three entries will get a money price within respectively primary, secondary and vocational training grade).

No limitations, no constraints: it’s all about being creative and getting youngsters to “think bio-based”!

For more information and submit materials, visit www.coebbe.nl/wat-is-biobased/biobased-challenge/   or click here to download the flyer.

Communicating the achievements of the bioeconomy: Recording from the BioCannDo Communication Network Webinar ready for download

Communicating the achievements of the bioeconomy: Recording from the BioCannDo Communication Network Webinar ready for download

Posted on 16/11/2018 by Erik Lohse - BioCannDo project

The BioCannDo Project has organised the fourth in a series of webinars addressed to all stakeholders involved in the bioeconomy, who want to engage with others and learn more on how to communicate the benefits of bio-based products and the bioeconomy.

The Webinar started with a presentation about lessons learned from the “Biobased Parade”, an inspiring exhibition held in Vlissingen (NL) where students presented a wide variety of bio-based experiences for all age groups, but particularly for young children. Afterwards, BioWays, a sister bioeconomy communication project of BioCannDo, shared its latest output, lessons learned and recommendations. Finally, the European Bioeconomy Network was presented to participants.

The next webinar will be organised in spring 2019.

The webinar was recorded and can be downloaded here.
