A number of activities took place in 2022 under the European Bioeconomy Network support, involving several EuBioNet members.

16 December 2022 – “Frascati Scienza”

During the Final event of EU Researchers’ Night (LEAF), Transition2BIO, GenB, Biogov.net presented their experience, highlighting the importance of the EU Researchers’ Night in promoting awareness and education among young generations.

13 December 2022 – “JRC Exploring foresight scenarios for the EU Bioeconomy towards sustainable development and climate neutral economy”

The JRC Knowledge Centre for Bioeconomy and the European Commission organized the foresight exercise “Exploring foresight scenarios for the EU Bioeconomy towards sustainable development and climate neutral economy” to identify the future scenario for the bioeconomy in 10, 20 and 30 years, using a game-based interactive facilitation. Transition2BIO, GenB and EuBioNet were represented by Susanna Albertini from FVA New Media Research.

2 December 2022 – Transition2Bio Final Event and Future Skills for the Bioeconomy

In line with 2023 as European Year of Skills, Transition2Bio organised in hybrid format a full-day event divided in two sessions on site hosted by Unitelma Sapienza and online. An overview of Transition2BIO, focusing on the objectives, outputs and main exploitable assets produced by the project to boost bioeconomy skills was presented. A final round table involved key actors engaged in EU funded projects in bioeconomy education: Transition2BIO, BIObec, Circular Bricks, SUSTRACK, BioGov.net.

23 November 2022 – “Projects2Policy: Aligning outcomes from EU projects with the EU policy for bio-based and biodegradable plastics” workshop

Glaukos project, Bio-Plastics Europe, European Bioplastics Research Network (EBRN) and the European Bioeconomy Network (EuBioNet) organised the online workshop to discuss about the outcomes stemming from the workshop organised on 3rd November, “Unlock the potential of bio-based and biodegradable plastics: challenges to be addressed”, in order to facilitate their adoption in form of Actionable Knowledge for EU Policies.

The event was live-streamed on the Bio-Plastics Europe’s YouTube channel.

8-9 November 2022 – ECOMONDO

8 November: Participation to the Cluster meeting: Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe projects contributing to the EU Plastics Strategy organized by the European Research Executive Agency (REA) with the speech “Addressing challenges to unlock bio-plastics potential: the contribution of EU-funded projects”. The two formats “Projects2Projects” and “Projects2Policy” were presented.

9 November: Participation to the conference session “Commit to the Mission Charter to contribute to a healthy “pollution free” MED with the speech “Experiences from EU funded projects contributing to the Mission Charter for a healthy “pollution free” MED”. During the speech some good practices from Transition2Bio, Biovoices, the European Bioeconomy Network and Glaukos have been presented.

3 November 2022 – “Unlock the potential of bio-based and biodegradable plastics: challenges to be addressed” workshop

Glaukos project organised a workshop together with Bio-Plastics Europe, European Bioplastics Research Network (EBRN) and the European Bioeconomy Network (EuBioNet).

The objective is to involve the most relevant projects related to bio-based plastics, to discuss the most urgent challenges to be addressed to unlock the potential of #biobased and #biodegradable plastic, in light of providing policy recommendations to be shared with EC Policy Officers in the context of the incoming 7th EBRN Event (23th November 2022).

5 October 2022 – Projects2Projects workshop

The EuBioNet, in collaboration with the European Commission and the projects Transition2Bio, BIOEASTsUP, BIObec and BioGov.net, organised a Mobilisation and Mutual learning workshop, as satellite event of the High Level Bioeconomy Conference, which took place on the 6 and 7 October 2022.

The workshop “Projects2Projects” will maximise the exploitation of lessons learnt and heritage of H2020 bioeconomy projects in communication, education and stakeholder engagement to effectively kick-off the newly funded Horizon Europe ones.

30 September-1 October 2022 – European Researchers’ Night in Rome

During the 2022 edition of the European Researchers’ Night organized by Frascati Scienza, the EuBioNet, together with the Transition2BIO, GenB and BIOGov.net projects, organised a capacity building for teachers, educational activities, the bio-based products exhibition and the BIOArt Gallery, to raise awareness and inform about the bioeconomy.

26 September 2022Presentation of the EuBioNet to 8 HEU projects and the italian NCP APRE

15 September 2022 – EuBioNet participated to CEE2ACT project Kick-off meeting

9 September 2022 – EuBioNet facilitated the contact between Transition2BIO and BIObec to maximise the exploitation of Transition2BIO toolkits to support primary school teachers in bioeconomy education.

8 September 2022 – EuBioNet facilitated the contact between Transition2BIO and CEE2ACT and between CEE2ACT and BIOEAST initiative.

5 September 2022 – 4th International Summer School on Circular Bio-economy and Sustainable Development

September-October 2022 – Young Bioeconomy Entrepreneurs interviews

The EU funded project Transition2Bio and the European Bioeconomy Network, in collaboration with the BBI JU funded project BIObec and the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU), produced a series of short video interviews in order to promote the excellence of European young entrepreneurs involved in the Sustainable and Circular Bioeconomy.

The aim of this initiative is to inspire, inform and attract young generations towards educational and working careers in the bioeconomy, therefore contributing to raise the future generation of workforce informed and interested in this domain.

22 June 2022 – 6th EBRN event “Insights from 10 Horizon projects: EU policy for bio-based and biodegradable plastics

BIO-PLASTICS EUROPE during the 6th EBRN event brought together representatives of 10 Horizon projects and 9 EU policy officers to a roundtable to discuss policy recommendations for the bio-based plastics sector.

20 June 2022 – Glaukos 2nd Stakeholder Labs workshop

The multistakeholder lab wokshop “Tackling microplastics pollution: can biodegradable textile and coating be a solution?” promoted a debate with regards to unintentionally released microplastics in two specific applications: textiles and coating, with a special focus on the fishing gears and clothing sectors. The objective was to identify and discuss how biodegradable solutions can address microplastic pollution along the lifecycle stages of textiles and coatings.

7 June-7 July 2022 – World Bioproduct Day campaign

The World Bioproduct Day was a joint social media campaign involving the EuBioNet, the World BioEconomy Forum, Transition2BIO and the SPRING – Italian Cluster of Circular Bioeconomy

During the campaign many stakeholders of the circular bioeconomy shared their stories via social media by using the hashtag #bioproductday2022 and/or #bioproductday, or by submitting via email their bioproducts.

1 June 2022 – Startupper School Academy Award Ceremony – Bioeconomy special prize

On 1 June, the 2021-2022 edition of Startupper School Academy, the program for the promotion of entrepreneurship in schools, aimed at stimulating the propensity to do business in the Higher Secondary Education Institutes of the Lazio Region ended. During the final event, the “Special Bioeconomy Award” was awarded to the best ideas in circular bioeconomy.

Among the partners of this edition, together with Transition2BIO and BIObec, also Novamont, SPRING – Italian Cluster of Circular Bioeconomy, Re Soil Foundation and the European Bioeconomy Network.

25-26 May 2022 – Bioeconomy Day

The Bioeconomy Day 2022 took place in Ravenna, Italy, hosted by Alighieri Theatre, on the 25th and 26th of May. The initiative was launched by the Cluster SPRING (the Italian Cluster of Circular Bioeconomy),  in collaboration with Assobiotec-Federchimica, Raul Gardini Foundation, the European Bioeconomy Network, APRE and FVA representing Transition2BIO, Novamont, Re Soil Foundation.

20 May 2022 – EuBioNet facilitated the contact between Transition2BIO, GenB and BioBeo projects to discuss future collaborations and joint activities.

 

May 2022Creation of the webpage dedicated to the RiGenerazione Scuolainitative, under the Italian Ministry of Education, and collecting good practices from projects and initiatives involved in bioeconomy education in Italy.

26 April 2022 – Second participatory workshop of BIOSKILLS tender

Deloitte, empirica and Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini (FGB) organised an online participatory workshop together with the European Commission’s DG Research & Innovation (DG RTD), as part of its study on “Promoting education, training and skills across the bioeconomy”. 

In this context, the speech “The role of EuBioNet in facilitating mutual learning and collaboration among the bioeconomy education community” was delivered.

6-7 April 2022 – Capacity building activity on “How to raise awareness and communicate the Bioeconomy”

Transition2BIO capacity building package and support to Member States and Regions, in collaboration with the EuBioNet, with the support of BIOEAST Initiative and GoDanuBio Project.

15 March 2022 – Paving the way towards Sustainable Entrepreneurship Education

The European Bioeconomy Network, Transition2Bio, the European Community of Practice for Bioeconomy Education, BIOSKILLS, BIOBec and the European Bioeconomy University (EBU), organised the workshop “Paving the way towards Sustainable Entrepreneurship Education”.

This workshop involved projects and initiatives interested in the intersection of Entrepreneurship Education (EE) and Sustainable Education (SE), with a special focus on circular and sustainable bioeconomy. The aim was to identify how the cross-fertilisation of EE and SE can help design educational curricula and extra-curricular activities for sustainability-minded entrepreneurs of tomorrow.

30 March 2022 – EuBioNet facilitated the contact between BIOSKILLS, BIObec and Transition2BIO projects and the European Bioeconomy University (EBU) to discuss future collaborations and joint activities.

 

15 February 2022 – The role of Bioeconomy in the Italian initiative “RiGenerazione Scuola”

The Round Table about the role of Bioeconomy in the context of the Green Transition was organised together with the Italian Ministry of Education in the context of the RiGenerazione Scuola Initiative. The event took place at the Italian Camera dei Deputati (Italian chamber of Deputies).

The main focus was on the importance of involving and educating the new generations within this transition process, in light of promoting a systemic change towards a more sustainable lifestyle.

27 January 2022 – Startupper School Academy 2022 – Training for teachers and students

“What is the circular bioeconomy and what are bio-based products?”: Training for teachers and students in collaboration with Lazio Innova, SPRING – Italian Cluster of Circular Bioeconomy, Novamont, ReSoil Foundation, BIObec

Startupper School Academy 2022 – Special Bioeconomy Prize.

Transition2BIO and BIObec, together with the European Bioeconomy Network, Re Soil Foundation, Novamont and Cluster SPRING have decided to support also the 2021-2022 edition of the Startupper School Academy Program, offering the special “Bioeconomy” prize, which aims to raise awareness of students for a more sustainable economic model that uses renewable resources as an alternative to the fossil ones. The activity included training for teachers and high school students.
