INVITATION TO THE CONFERENCE FOR BIOEAST AS A DRIVING FORCE IN THE CONTEXT OF THE EUROPEAN GREEN DEAL

Venue: Permanent Representation of the Slovak Republic to the EU, Avenue de Cortenbergh 79, 1000 Brussels

The European Commission announced an ambitious roadmap to tackle the challenges ahead of us. The “European Green Deal” is designed in such a way that no individual nor any region should be left behind the great transformation. The governmental initiative for knowledge-based agriculture, aquaculture, and forestry in the bioeconomy – BIOEAST, of 11 Central and Eastern European member states could play a key role in helping to form the necessary partnerships, to join forces in developing needs, priorities and to work together at the European level in order to achieve the common objectives.

The high-level conference on the 1st day aims to gather key political figures (state secretary level), ministry officials, policymakers, researchers, academia and other stakeholders involved in different parts of the BIOEAST environment to inform them about emerging policy developments and to discuss key priorities at the European level. Moreover, the aim is also to inform the EU institutions and respective officers dealing with the countries from the macro-region about the BIOEAST potential.

The conference agenda and concept note are available at the following link: BIOEAST Conference and TWG agendas & Concept note.

Bio-based products from fast pyrolysis oil (webinar)

Bio-based products from fast pyrolysis oil (webinar)

20 February 2020, 11:00 – 12:15 CET
SUMMARY
Fast pyrolysis technology can convert a wide range of difficult-to-handle biomass into a clean and uniform bio-oil, which is easy to store and transport.
Most applications have so far focused on the use of pyrolysis oil for energy purposes, but the Horizon 2020 project Bio4Products has developed a technology to divide pyrolysis oil into multiple fractions that could be used for material applications.
Many new products could be developed from pyrolysis oil, and this webinar will introduce some of the latest results from innovative companies and collaborations in Europe.

The European Bioeconomy Network, Novamont and BIOVOICES support the Startupper School Academy Program

Lazio Innova has launched the Startupper School Academy Program to promote entrepreneurship and creativity in the Lazio Region High schools

To design a sustainable future, the contribution of young generation is essential!

Also this year BIOVOICES project, Novamont and the European Bioeconomy Network have decided to support the Startupper School Academy Program, offering the special “Bioeconomy” prize, which aims to raise awareness of students for a more sustainable economic model that uses renewable resources as an alternative to the fossil ones. The winning projects must pay particular attention to the entire life cycle of the product, from the use of raw materials of biological origin (vegetable or animal, with particular attention to the raw materials currently considered waste), to sustainable production, up to disposal (end of life), with a view to circular bioeconomy.

The special “Bioeconomy” prize 2019-2020 will offer the following prizes:

  • the winning Institute will receive a prize of 1,500.00 euros offered by Novamont;
  • the 3 finalists Team:
    • will be hosted during the Scuola@Novamont open day. The visit will offer the opportunity to discover the production processes of MATER-BI® compostable bioplastics, at the Mater-Biopolymer plant, a company of the Novamont group, dedicated to the production of ORIGO-BI®, bio-polyesters with a high degree of renewability. More information https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYPIKon47js
    • they will receive 3 Vivichem kits, educational support designed to reproduce the biorefinery in a box through the description of renewable raw materials and the processes that lead to the production of bioproducts and biopolymers, with particular attention to the end of life issue;
    • will be hosted at the exhibition space of the European BIOVOICES project during the European Researchers’ night in Frascati and at the Maker Faire Rome (2020), to promote their project idea in a large scale event;

Bioeconomy in Friuli Venezia Giulia – Focus on training and orientation to support sustainable and circular development

Bioeconomy in Friuli Venezia Giulia – Focus on training and orientation to support sustainable and circular development

Description: ENHANCE LOCAL BIOECONOMY STRATEGIES AND ACTION PLANS

Bioeconomy in Friuli Venezia Giulia – Focus on training and orientation to support sustainable and circular development

The Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia organized an important event targeted at representatives of public administrations, research, the productive sector, civil society, school, training, and the university to jointly analyze the theme of training within a strategic sector at European level, such as the Bioeconomy.

This sector involves economic activities that use renewable bio-resources of soil and sea (agricultural crops, forests, animals and micro-organisms on land and sea) to produce food, materials and energy. Valuing the innovative manufacturing vocation, the presence of an excellent educational and scientific offer and the consequent ability to produce qualified human capital, the Regional Administration has identified the Bioeconomy as a potential opportunity for economic development in Friuli Venezia Giulia and in this context the training is of strategic importance.

During the event, the following topics will be examined with the participants:

  • How to sensitize the productive world and anticipate the training needs related to the opportunities of the Bioeconomy;
  • How to train the trainers;
  • How to guide young people, families and teachers / trainers. At the work there will also be experts at national level, who will illustrate some good practices.

Participation in the morning event is addressed to experts by invitation, to participate in the afternoon session it is necessary to register via the following link:

BBI JU Stakeholder Forum CSAs workshop

BBI JU Stakeholder Forum CSAs workshop

Egg Congress and Meeting Center                                                                                           Brussel 3 December

The role of Coordination and Support Actions (CSAs) is fundamental in supporting bio-based industries grow and the market-uptake, because these projects tackle strategic aspects and cross-cutting challenges fundamental to boost the Bioeconomy. Despite of the considerable amount of high-quality knowledge generated by the CSAs in the different programmes, a global, integrated and structured vision of their results is missing. CSAs outputs are often not easily available, neither integrated among CSAs, nor transparent and promoted among the stakeholders. To create a coherent and stimulating ‘environment’ for a sustainable bio-based industry in Europe, better knowledge circulation and collaboration among CSAs, funded under different programmes should be encouraged to provide a global picture, maximise the impact of CSAs results and provide an integrated overview of gaps that should be addressed, providing evidence-based recommendations for the incoming calls.

To address the above-mentioned challenge, LIFT project contributes to maximise the impact of CSA by valorising their outcomes and promoting the collaboration among them, aiming at identifying gaps to be addressed to ensure a stimulating environment boosting the Bio-Based economy.

In the context of the BBI JU Stakeholder Forum 2019, LIFT project is organising, in close collaboration with BBI JU, a Mobilisation and Mutual Learning Workshop among the CSA projects, as well as selected non-CSA projects funded under different programmes, promoting the creation of an innovation ecosystem for the bioeconomy.

38 CSAs will present the lessons learnt from their projects and will discuss the challenges still to be addressed for bioeconomy uptake in 4 facilitated sessions, involving more that 350 participants.

The parallel sessions will address the following topics:

  • Communication and  education
  • Policy framework
  • From research to market
  • Value chains and innovation ecosystem

The workshop is supported by the European Bioeconomy Network, BIOVOICES and Biobridges projects
